Stuff Worth Sharing
Political seppuku: In what may go down as the stupidest political move of the year, Kyrsten Sinema announced that she’s abandoning the Democratic party.
The Autothoritarian Threat: (see what I did there?) more political positioning re China, this time through the surveillance risk of autonomous cars. Actually funny / surprising how little thought I’ve given to a mobile, 24/7 camera rig.
SBFNGMI v3: The new FTX CEO gave a scathing testimony to Congress calling the operations “old-fashioned embezzlement”. As a reminder, this is the man who dealt with the Enron clean up. Days later he got the book thrown at him by the Justice Department with eight counts of fraud. I am completely glued to this story.
Book report: I recently finished Talent by Tyler Cowan and Daniel Gross. Solid 3 stars, so dissapointing generally. But there are some excellent interview questions designed to throw people off their prep (e.g., What is something esoteric that you do?) I’ve been playing around with variations in founder calls and it’s wonderful.
Explaining tech magic: If your Twitter is abuzz with ChatGPT / Midjourney / RunwayML and are wondering how transformer models actually work this is a very helpful podcast from the Colossus group.
Crime and TBD punishment: Matt Levine, who in my opinion is a national treasure, wrote a perfect newsletter on a pump and dump case that’s being investigated. I guffawed at #11 at least a dozen times already.
Hope personified: I’m not a huge fan of David Letterman but I have to give credit where it’s due. He and his My Next Guest crew flew to Ukraine to do an episode with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was the most inspiring thing I watched all year and I highly, highly recommend.
Shameless Plug
Some exciting Series A news in the portfolio but nothing I can share so this week I will be uncharacteristically humble.
Tuesday Job Drop
Every week I share cool new job postings from early stage startups I know. Find the jobs board here. No new jobs this week as the holidays approach.
Asks
This marks the sixth week I’ve done a newsletter and so far I’ve really enjoyed the process. While limited, feedback has been positive so I intend to continue into 2023. If you’ve enjoyed (Re)Share please forward along to others who you think may as well. Other than that, please have a wonderful holiday season!!!
