Stuff Worth Sharing
RIP essays: Easily the most popular story of the week was the insanely impressive technical breakthrough of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Loads of ink has been spilled of how transformative this can be to society at large, but perhaps the true killer app is hilarious Twitter content. Some favorites here, here and here.
Ant-Man is real: Last week science unveiled a simulated blackhole, which provides early evidence for quantum gravity. The team developed a quantum circuit that’s equivalent to a wormhole and that was made traversable by mapping said wormhole as a neural net. If that makes your brain hurt, as it does mine, the article linked has a very accessible (17 min) video.
SBFNGMI v2: By now you’ve likely read a bunch on the dying star implosion that is FTX and it’s previously infallible leader. But this is a 73 minute, cringe-worthy interview with the man himself and it’s a must.
Plaque remover: An Eisai + Biogen clinical trial released the results of an 18 month trial, which shows real evidence of a functional Alzheimer’s treatment!
Tech and exploitation: It’s easy to get excited about EVs and new iPhone models when the impact of production isn’t in your backyard. A really good piece on the impact that rare metals mining will have on the lands of Indigenous peoples.
Shameless Plug
This was unplanned but Fly VC had a follow on funding hat-trick this week. Rather than wax poetic on each amazing company, I’ll let the coverage speak for itself.
